"Young, energetic, talented, knowledgeable and passionate" are some of the words that might describe Rick Sopka and his golf career. Becoming a PGA member in 1998, Sopka is a born and raised Floridian who was first introduced to the game at the age of twelve by his father. At the time, his Dad didn't realize he was in the process of creating a monster. Sopka won several junior golf tournaments in the state from 1983 to 1987.
Prior to becoming an instructor at Ben Sutton Golf School in 2003, Sopka worked as both an assistant golf professional and head teaching professional at local country and golf clubs. He qualified for the Florida Open 3 years in a row and was the North Florida PGA winter tour runner up from 1997 to 2000.
He taught for a brief time at Roland Stafford Golf School and during this same time was the North Florida Section 2 man team champion. When he's not teaching, Sopka enjoys gardening, boating and traveling with his wife Kristine and their two children.
In Sopka's own words, "I am thankful that I have chosen this path in life. My passion for golf and my enthusiasm for the game will always be in my blood. The most rewarding part of being a teaching professional is helping my students walk away with a greater love for the game.
What the students have to say about Rick
This is to let you know that because we ended early on Monday, we departed for Miami the same evening which allowed us a little more time in Miami for my wife to continue her shopping and departed for Mexico on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, my wife (Leticia) participated in a ladies tournament in our Club, securing an 87 and the first prize (41 with 5 pars in the first 9 holes and 46 with 4 pars in the second nine. Par is 72). She wanted me to thank you because she claims her new swing and short game helped her a lot. The only few bogeys (and couple of double bogeys) was because she went back to her old swing.
Best wishes for you and your family and may God bless you plentifully in 2011.

Jan 7-10, 2011 - 3 day school + 3 hour private lesson
I just found some time to get back to advise you of the great time in Windham.
When registering for the course, I spoke with Mike Dettling and he kept me informed as to the course, location and all the necessary things that would be part of the process.
The first person that I met from the "school" was Ashley who cheerfully welcomed both myself and my wife to the area. Her smile and enthusiasm certainly set the mood for a great week.
I was fortunate enough to have Rick "the wrecker" Sopka as my instructor. I call him the "wrecker" as he completely wrecked my golf swing or facsimile of a golf "chicken wing" swing. I now can say, that I have a greater appreciation of what a golf swing should look and feel like - thanks to "the wrecker". The course structure and evolution of the golf swing components and the drills were the added value that will be easy to remember.
Since returning to Canada, I have purchased a camcoder and the home version of V1Golf. This purchase will ensure that what was taught, will not go astray.
Your school and advertising are accurate and as a client, I got my full measure for my money. I now have to spend some time getting rid of the extra weight I gained at the Christmans accommodations.
Again let me thank you and your staff for a pleasant learning experience. As General MacArthur stated when he was leaving the Philippines - "I shall return".
